Do You Really Need A Blog?

Moo cards for blogging workshop

Or 6 reasons why you need a blog.

Blogs may have been born as personal journals - but today - they have exploded as a business application thanks to their far-reaching effects. Just some of the benefits of blogging are:

* Increase your business
* Increase your profits

Can't see anyone saying 'NO' to these two benefits. Blogs complement business marketing efforts in a way that no other internet marketing method can. While it may not be mandatory to blog, you ought to seriously think about it if you want to enjoy the two benefits listed above.

Let's move on to 6 solid reasons why you need a blog:

You can:

1. brand yourself/your business
2. establish yourself as an expert
3. increase your credibility
4. create a brand new marketing channel
5. create a channel of communication with potential customers
6. solve your SEO or search engine optimization issues.

To elaborate:

1. Brand yourself/your business
Branding is not confined to the big boys in the business. It is a well known fact that personal branding is just as important, especially for those focusing on a niche. When you brand yourself, your products will be associated with you. Since targeted traffic is everyone's goal, the more targeted your traffic, the more traffic you get - and naturally more sales. Blogging is also an excellent public relations tool, as it helps build your image and brand.

2. Establish yourself as an expert
Share your knowledge and add value to your 'product' even as you establish yourself as an expert in your field. People are more likely to turn to you for authentic info when you have valuable information to give. Your customers will trust you. Your marketing expenses can be minimized since prospective customers turn to you rather than your competitor.

3. Increase your credibility
Before your customer buys from you, they must trust you. Your blog can help with this. Add your contact information, allowing them to get in touch with you, interact with you, letting them see you as a real human being - and not just an electronic voice.

4. Create a brand new marketing channel
While email marketing works, what with the issue of spamming, phishing and the like, blogs are far better to get across your marketing message. Blogs let you use RSS, podcasting, etc. to reach your readers.

5. Create a channel of communication with potential customers
Since blogs are naturally interactive, your potential customers can comment on what you post. They can ask questions, to which you can promptly respond. This saves a lot of time. Blogs also let you keep in touch with your prospects and customers since you can keep them informed about the latest happenings in your business.

6. Solve your SEO or search engine optimization issues.
Since search engines are partial to blogs, it makes them highly search engine friendly - getting your blog indexed/spidered much quicker than a traditional website. This means faster search engine traffic - more importantly - targeted traffic.

Best of all - you can start a blog for free with any of the major blogging platforms like Blogger, WordPress, etc.
